Top 6 Off-Roading Locations in the US

Craving some excitement for your next trip? Consider going on an off-roading adventure, allowing you to experience a rush of adrenaline while taking in the spectacular beauty of some of the nation's most beautiful locations. Here are six of the top off-roading locations in the US that you should consider for your next adventure.

Moab, Utah

Moab, Utah is a true outdoor paradise. While it may be best known for its red rock formations and stunning national parks, the geography of this area provides ample off-roading opportunities. The diverse terrain offers something for novice and expert off-roaders.
You can show up in Moab with your own off-road vehicle or you can register for any of the many guided trail tours. Or choose to rent your vehicle when you arrive. Because so much of the culture of Moab revolves around the off-roading community, it is easy to jump right into the fun when in this corner of southeastern Utah.

Rubicon Trail, California

Just to the west of Lake Tahoe, you will find the popular Rubicon Trail. This 22-mile trail goes through the El Dorado National Forest and the Tahoe National Forest.
Because of the challenging terrain, only high-clearance 4x4 vehicles should attempt this feat. The Rubicon Trail Foundation cautions drivers to equip their vehicles with a three-inch lift and tires of at least 33 inches. This trail is not for the faint of heart.

Punta Gorda, Florida

Wondering where to take your off road vehicles next? Most people do not think of coastal Florida as being an off-roading mecca, however, you will find one of the most exciting places to craft your trade-in Punta Gorda. The Redneck Yacht Club Mud Park prides itself on being one of the most exciting off-roading destinations in the US.

This park features 800 acres of fun, including a mud track, three mud holes, a drive-thru car wash to clean up when you are done, and more. You can even choose to camp overnight at this park, making a whole trip out of it.

Alpine Loop Trail, Colorado

While it may take some effort to reach the Alpine Loop Trail in southwestern Colorado, it is well worth your time. The 63-mile trail crosses over two soaring 12,00-foot mountain passes. Along the way, you will also ride past a handful of ghost towns, adding to the allure of your time in the Wild, Wild West.
Although you can traverse most of the trail with a 2WD vehicle, you will need a high 4x4 to be able to take advantage of the scenic views. Keep in mind that this trail is closed throughout the winter because of snowy and icy conditions. The best time to see it is during the mild summer months.

Dalton Highway, Alaska

The famed Dalton Highway encompasses over 400 miles of perfect trails for your off-road vehicle. The closest major city to this trail is Fairbanks, located about 70 miles away. This makes it important that you fuel up and gather all necessary essentials before taking off.
Do not be surprised to encounter loads of native wildlife while on your ride. Keep your eyes peeled for grizzly bears, moose, beavers, and more. There is something new around every corner of the Dalton Highway.

El Camino Del Diablo, Arizona

Located just to the southwest of Ajo, Arizona, this trail runs along the border with Mexico, providing unique views and abundant sunshine if you want to take the top off of your vehicle. The trail stretches for 250 miles and goes back to the 16th century when settlers and missionaries took to it on foot.
You will need a high-riding 4x4 vehicle to tackle this monster. Be sure to pack along plenty of water as services are scarce and it will definitely get hot. If you complete the entire journey, you will take in the abandoned Fortuna Mine, the Pinta Sand Dunes, the Pinacate Volcanic Field, and the Tule Mountains.
It is easy to get caught up in the thrill of off-roading with a visit to any of these six unique destinations. Regardless of if you are looking for a remote experience or a park dedicated to off-roading experiences, you will find it on this list.
